The importance of community documentation: Side-event at ITWG-AnGR 8 on 26th November at FAO in Rome

Many pastoralist and indigenous livestock production systems are low-input but high output. However they have remained largely invisible because they were never properly documented. Community documentation is an important strategy to change this thinking.

Does the Nagoya Protocol on Access and Benefit-Sharing that recently entered into force provide an appropriate framework, with its emphasis on community protocols?

This is the theme of a side-event that LPP is hosting next week at FAO in Rome on 26th November in form of a side-event in the Iran Room during the lunch break.

There will be exciting contributions by Elizabeth Katushabe from PENHA in Uganda, Dr. Maria Rosa Lanari from INTA in Argentina, and Rao Abdul Qadeer from the Camel Association of Pakistan (CAP). The event will be chaird by Poland’s National Coordinator, Dr. ElzbietaMartyniuk.

New website “Camels of Rajasthan”

The camel has been named “state animal” of Rajasthan, but the planned legislation will undermine pastoralists’ livelihoods. A new website Camels of Rajasthan calls for a different and innovative approach – please have a look! It also features an on-line exhibition of images of Rajasthan’s camel culture, many of them by famous photographers.
